a non-profit for emergency comms awareness
Our mission is to promote and advance amateur (ham) radio through education, public service, and emergency communication. We strive to educate individuals of all ages about radio technology, foster interest in STEM fields through hands-on learning, and provide reliable communication support during emergencies and disasters.
Through workshops and community outreach, we aim to build a skilled network of radio operators dedicated to public safety, emergency preparedness, and global communication. We are committed to offering free or low-cost classes, public presentations, and demonstrations to educate communities about the importance and benefits of radio communication for both everyday use and emergency situations.
As many in the amateur radio community transition to digital modes, we seek to revitalize and popularize FM communication, preserving its accessibility and reliability. By expanding internet linking for analog systems, we aim to strengthen global connectivity while maintaining the simplicity and effectiveness of traditional radio.
We welcome everyone who shares our passion for radio communication, regardless of background or experience. While we are open to all, we are also dedicated to promoting our Polish heritage, fostering a strong connection between Polish-American radio operators, and celebrating the contributions of Polish hams in emergency communication and technological advancement.
Group 312 Chicago runs a growing network of repeaters and gateways across Chicagoland and with our partners in Poland. Our systems let you communicate locally and connect with operators across communities, states, and around the world.
Local Use: Repeaters can be disconnected from FM Poland network for local use by dialing DTMF 9#. This command temporarily places the repeater in local mode, allowing it to operate as a standard standalone repeater. It will automatically reconnect to FM Poland network after 60 seconds of inactivity.
Audio Check: You can use the echo system by dialing DTMF 919990# or D9 to check your audio and make sure you are getting into the repeater.
Group 312 Chicago is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization dedicated to promoting and advancing amateur radio through education, public service, and emergency communication. Our network of repeaters provides reliable communication infrastructure spanning from Chicagoland to Poland.
We utilize FM Poland to connect our repeaters and link to the broader amateur radio community. This platform enables seamless communication between our local systems and operators worldwide, strengthening the global FM network.
To support our mission, we encourage collaboration among repeater and FM system operators, providing a platform for idea-sharing and coordinated growth while respecting each sysop's independence. By fostering a cooperative environment, we can enhance engagement and ensure the continued development of FM as a vital mode of communication.
